The skin naturally produces hyaluronic acid (HA), which keeps the skin full, hydrated, and elastic. However, the production of hyaluronic acid decreases with age. Dermal fillers, also known as wrinkle fillers and anti-wrinkle injections, mimic the effects of HA causing reduced facial lines, scars, and increased plumpness of areas on the face which may be lacking volume (including the lips). It is also commonly used to treat lines caused by smoking and sun damage.
