Tear trough rejuvenation is a non-surgical treatment, which is appropriate for some patients with lower eyelid dark circles and dark hollows. Many experience loss of volume in this area over time which can result in a tired appearance.

Tear Trough filler FAQs

In the lower eyelid a weakening of the orbital septum, and in the cheek area (the “mid-face”) a loss of soft tissue volume, which tends to accentuate the appearance of the lower bony orbital margin which lies between the lower eyelid and the cheek. This also leads to the appearance of lower eyelid fat pockets and together these can lead to a “tear trough” depression, or dark shadow or hollow.

At the ESHO Clinic a small innovative micro cannula is used to give precise injections of dermal filler along the eyelid hollows to try and reverse the effects. This procedure should only be carried out by an experienced advanced aesthetic practitioner such as Dr Esho or one of the ESHO Associates.

Topical anaesthetic is also applied before the procedure. The dermal filler used also contains local anaesthetic. At the ESHO Clinic, Juvederm is the filler of choice, but other fillers are also used depending on the patients preference and Doctors advice.

Results can last between 9-12 months but this can be patient dependant.

Some patients may not be suitable for tear trough filler and may need alternative methods to treat their tear troughs. Patients may benefit from a combination of cosmetic eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) and tear trough injections. Tear trough filler can also be used in synergy with adding volume to the cheek and mid face with filler injections if this is necessary. The best treatment option for the patient is advised at the consultation.
